Where to Eat on Caye Caulker
This post is part of our series on Belize. We entered Belize in late October 2018, and spent time on Caye Caulker and inland Belize. I definitely recommend Caye Caulker as the Highlight of the trip and wanted to give you some inside information on the cuisines that can be found on the island.
Roy’s Blue Water Grill
The first dinner we had on the island was at Roy’s Blue Water Grill. In my opinion, you need to order the lobster. You can have lobster anywhere on the island, good quality, large size, served anyway you want it. But the first meal needs to be lobster. Eat lobster until you are sick of it! I’ll be fair to the other fishes and at least report that everyone says that all the food is good here. It will cost you a similar price in Belize dollars as it would in American dollars, except that the exchange rate is $1US to 2BZ. I think it was $30 US for a full lobster dinner.
We were sitting next to, and chatting with a couple who had just purchased property on the other half of Caye Caulker across the split. They were designing their house. It was during that conversation that I decided that I wanted to buy property over there too, and live here forever, but maybe that was just the exhaustion, and booze, and delicious lobster talking. It had been a pretty rough day traveling through Chetumal.
Paridiso Cafe
We had breakfast at the Paridiso Cafe more than once. You have more than one option: Something light to start the day, or something heavy to kill the hangover. On the last day we determined that a customer that we kept seeing frequently was actually the owner. She definitely has something to be proud of in terms of the quality of the food and the kindness of her employees.
Wish Willy’s
Wish Willy’s is in a residential neighborhood near the split. Actually, this really is just someone’s backyard. I’m not sure how zoning works in Caye Caulker. You have to cross through the fence’s gate when you enter.
,Now that you are here, Willy cooks you barbecued food. The menu is pretty loose, and the atmosphere is casual. I think I told him I liked chicken and vegetables and the rest was history. Willy feeds you soul food and you go home satisfied.
The Banana Bread Guy
I must admit that I don’t know where the Banana Bread originates from, but there is a man on a bike who passes through town once or twice a day and sells Banana Bread out of a cart on the back of his bicycle. It’s delicious.
