Santa Catalina Island, CA
Catalina Island is a small island located about 29 miles from the Coast of Long Beach, California. It is considered to be part of Los Angeles County, and has a single incorporated city called Avalon. There is an unincorporated area of Two Harbors. Originally inhabited by native Americans, the island has a varied history of occupancy and ownership.
This lead to lots of interesting trivia about the island. For example, In the 1920’s William Wrigley developed the island into a destination for the rich and famous, hosting movie premiers and dances at the Wrigley Casino, whose construction was completed in 1929. The Chicago Cubs used the island for Spring Training for almost 3 Decades. The Navy utilized the island as a training center during the second World War. In the 1970’s the Catalina Island Conservancy became owners of nearly 90% of the island. And now you can ask me about the Buffalo’s!
